SUMMARY OF THE ROLE
The Project Engineer will audit and develop opportunities around Energy Conservation Measures and may be assigned to design and/or create specifications as assigned throughout the implementation period.  The Project Engineer may interact with his or her supervisor weekly to receive guidance and feedback.  Some non-routine activities may require a supervisor’s advanced approval.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Surveying:
  • Completely understand all metering and measurement tools used at OpTerra Energy Services and understand the data provided
  • Have a working knowledge of identifying different types of mechanical, HVAC controls systems (Energy Management System)
  • Proficient at performing mechanical, lighting, water and energy conservation measure surveys
  • Proficient at identifying and applying renewable generation and storage technologies
  • Proficient at reviewing and analyzing third party data
  • Complete an accurate mechanical field survey which includes taking accurate measurements, amp draws, kW readings, fan RPM readings, static pressure, etc.
  • Identify energy savings opportunities under the direction of the Project Manager
 
Analysis and Engineering:
  • Competent in computer modeling software programs, such as Trane Trace, PVSyst, Equest or Energy Pro and apply them in preparing the PDA
  • Competent at performing mechanical, lighting, water, energy conservation and renewable generation analysis, which includes estimating savings, estimating material and labor costs, and determining the appropriate technologies
  • Competent and proficient at utility rate structures for energy savings analysis
  • Competent at quantifying energy usage from miscellaneous equipment, such as refrigerators, computers, plug loads, etc.
  • Proficient at performing load take-offs from drawings. Prepare the input data for each model for the computer simulation software
  • With minimal supervision, prepare specification and design drawings for the various energy projects
  • Work with OpTerra Energy Services' CAD Department and our internal/external engineering resources to develop and produce the specification and drawings
  • Obtain a solid working knowledge of HVAC systems, which includes the ability to identify different systems and equipment, identifying potential ECM's, determining how to quantify the potential energy savings
 
Report Writing:
  • Ability to prepare written descriptions for the existing data at present facilities as well as descriptions for the application of various energy conservation and renewable generation technologies for inclusion into report
  • Perform utility bill analysis and complete the utility analysis section
  • Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills in report writing and correspondence
  • Manage time between multiple projects to meet deadlines
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by senior team members
 
Implementation:
  • Assist during the construction phase of the project by reviewing submittal and change orders, and making recommendations for approval or denial to the Project Manager
  • Manage utility incentive process
  • Assist in commissioning as requested
